Parent-teacher interviews this term will take place in week four from July 31 to Friday 4 August.  You will be emailed a link in the coming week to nominate a time for an interview for your child with their classroom teacher.
Michelle Mitchell from Youth Excel will be providing the opportunity to join her on this coming Tuesday 25 July at 5:30pm.  The team at Youth Excel help young people through all the normal issues they face while growing up, as well as those that are more complex. They would love to meet your family and be a part of your journey.
What a great community event the carnival was for all that attended.  I hope that you enjoyed the activities with your child if you were able to attend.  Special thanks again to Jenny Collins and the team of staff that supported the day.
A vital part of “Positive Behaviour for Learning” is maintaining a safe environment for students, staff and parents/care givers. Please ensure that your child does not arrive at school prior to 8:30am. Supervision is provided on the oval of the school by Teacher Aides from 8:30am.
The School operating hours are 9:00am-3:00pm. The office is open from 8:00am-3:30pm for all parent/care giver enquiries.
1. Teachers and Administration staff are rostered for duty from 9:00am – 3:00pm only. You may observe them on school premises but this is a time for planning and preparation, they are not required to provide supervision prior/after these times.
2. It is a criminal offence for a person who has care of a child less than 12 years of age, to leave the child for an unreasonable time without making reasonable provision for the supervision and care of the child. We ask that students not arrive at school until after 8.30am.
3. If you require out of hours school care for your child please contact Jabiru.
4. All students, upon arrival between 8.30am – 8.50am are required to walk to the oval area near the tuckshop which is the only supervised areas for this time. All unaccompanied students are to leave the school grounds by 3:15pm.
Thank you for the current interest in the art club invitation recently. Unfortunately the school only received a small response to the expression of interest and will not be able to implement this as an option for this semester.
At the recent P&C meeting the decision was made to host the annual art show in term four on Saturday 7 October in the evening. As this will be my first art show with the school I am looking forward to the evening and would like to make sure that we have as much community support that we can provide for the evening.
Many of you might already be aware that our much loved cleaner Gaylene Shepherd will be retiring on August 4 this year. She has been a valued member of the school community for 33 years and will be missed by everyone at the school. I would like to invite the community to wish her well at next week’s assembly on Friday the 28 July that will be held at the usual time of 9:00am.
Recently I responded to the community survey request regarding the  development of a dress code and invited the community to be part to the policy development.  The dress code is currently in draft form and a copy of it is available at the school office.  As it is only a draft at this stage the school and P&C are open to feedback.  Please email me at if you wish to provide any suggestions to the draft.
Enjoy the week ahead

How Well Do You Know Our Local Area?
How easy is it for you to walk, cycle or catch public transport to school?  Find out in Petrie Terrace State School’s new Active Travel Map.  Brisbane City Council has produced this map for the school as part of the Active School Travel program.  Our Active Travel Map is a detailed map of our suburb highlighting public transport routes, walking and cycle paths, safe crossing points and essential public facilities.
The map also provides an approximate walking distance/time to school. If you live within walking distance, we strongly encourage you to walk or cycle to school at least once a week. If you live further away and have to drive, you can still do the ‘Park and Stride’ following the suggested pink routes. Just leave your car outside the “walking distance zone” and walk the rest of the way.

P&C News

Oval Space Redevelopment Working Group
At the recent P&C meeting, Jabiru proposed to pay for a professional landscaper to run school/community workshops to create a master plan for the Petrie Terrace oval space.  To assist in coordination of this, a P&C working group has been formed.  If you are interested in being a part of this working group, please contact Donna, our fantastic P&C secretary at:
Sports Working Group
The P&C are forming a Sports Working Group to encourage greater opportunities for students to participate in and experience various sports at school.  If you are interested in being a member of this working group, please contact Donna, our P&C secretary at:
Working Bee
The PTSS Grounds Committee would like to thank all those who gave of their time to attend last weekend’s working bee. A lot was achieved in a few short hours with many hands. Watch this space for future opportunities to help beautify and improve the school grounds.
Assembly coffee
You may have noticed that our Barista Extraordinaire, Robert has been absent from behind the coffee machine at assembly of late.  He will be back…but in the meantime, if you are able to help make coffees and keep parent peepers open and attentive at assembly on Friday mornings, please text or email Del on: 0403 821 211
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Petrie Terrace P&C will be on Wednesday 9th August at 6.30pm in the Bumbletown Hall.  See you there!
