PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

BEHAVIOUR FOCUS
Return Borrowed Items - When you borrow something it is not yours to keep. You must take care of the item and return it to the person or place from where it was borrowed.

MIND UP FOCUS
Mindful Action - A Mindful Action is being aware of what you are doing when you are doing it. It is about thinking about the task you are doing at the time and not thinking about other things.

Dear Families and Friends,

This month is JOYFUL JUNE.  How can we ensure that this is the best month to enjoy so far this year??
I think it is by how we all communicate with each other using good manners at home, at school in the classroom, playground and especially at our school assemblies.  Good manners and etiquette show that children come from a nurturing environment. Good manners will help our children to be successful, function well, and have reduced internal conflicts. Here are 9 specific manners that our students need to be mindful of when demonstrating RESPECT FOR SELF, OTHERS AND PLACE at home and also at school.

1. Saying Please and Thank you. Students need to remember the three magic words of “Please” and “Thank you” in the home and at school, it will become automatic when children are out in public.
2. Asking before taking anything. Students should learn that they need to ask before they take anything that is not theirs. When they return the item, they should say “thank you”.
3. Saying Sorry. Students should know how to say “Sorry”.  We ask that you not force children to say I am sorry, but reinforce the words. This will teach the children empathy, which is very important.
4. Saying excuse me. Students can be very impatient, they need to be taught to say excuse me and wait for permission to speak. They should not be allowed to interrupt when other people are speaking.
5. Sitting quietly. This is very difficult to teach but students need to learn how to sit quietly and patiently in the classroom and other events.
6. Do not make fun of other people. Students should be taught they never make fun of anyone either in public or in private. Children should realise that these insults hurt other people’s feelings.
7. Being helpful and compassionate. Children should be taught and shown how to be helpful and compassionate in life.
8. Respecting elders, parents and teachers. It is important to teach children to respect their elders and teachers, they are trying to teach children the right path to lead their lives.
9. Having conversations, the right way. Children should learn to speak softly, no yelling, shouting or screaming. We can teach by example by not yelling or shouting at children. Children must also learn not to interrupt when someone is speaking to them. Wait their turn to speak, let the other person finish what they are saying and then speak when they are finished.

Manners are an emphasized at PTSS daily. Good manners and a strong education is the key to success. We will continue to work with our students at school to reinforce good manners. We are asking parents to partner with us to reinforce “Good Manners” at home. This is how we are teaching the students to have love for each other and also how we fill each other’s buckets to make our school the best place to share our learning.
Thank you for partnering with the school to continue to grow our students so they are the best they can be.
Enjoy your week,
Sandy

BANKING VOLUNTEER REQUEST
Our wonderful banking volunteer – Fiona – is finally retiring from this role after an amazing 7 years of service!  We are therefore looking for somebody to take her place.  This could be a job share role.  This is a great opportunity to meet the children and their families on a Friday morning.  For more information please see the below article.

SCHOOL BANKING
Calling for volunteers – we need your help!

Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and to keep this program running we need your help.

The program requires a volunteer School Banking Co-ordinator to facilitate the banking and distribution of School Banking rewards. This only takes a small amount of your time one day a week and the Commonwealth Bank will provide support in how to run the program. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising.

Currently, School Banking day is Friday.

If you are interested in volunteering for this great program, please contact the school office.

TUCKSHOP
Please note there will be NO TUCKSHOP on Thursday 28th of June due to the sports day at Ithaca State School.
