Term 3 Week 10

2 October Public Holiday
3 October Term 4 Commences
7 October Art Show

Mind up – Mindful seeing
Behaviour rule – Dispose of rubbish
This week sees the completion of Term Three and the many wonderful experiences for our students, families and staff at Petrie Terrace State School. This week I have a lot of people to thank for their ongoing commitment and effort in our great school. The greatest asset we have is one another. Our school and community is filled with talented and dedicated people and you are the reason our school is successful as a team. Thank you.
As this busy term comes to a close I would like to remind you all that school will start on Tuesday 3 October for Term Four due to the Monday public holiday.  I would like to wish you a happy and safe break with your families and I look forward to the final term of the year with you all on our return.
Thank you to the team from Jabiru that visited us this Wednesday at first break. Our students were able to interact with the various play equipment that the bus has on board.  We are hoping to have them back early next term.

Next term the school is looking to help support our Prep students for 2018 by inviting them and other community members to attend our very first playgroup from birth to Pre Prep age groups.  Please email me at if you might be interested or pass this information on to others that might like to attend.  The dates and times will depend on the level of interest.
Late yesterday afternoon the school received information that work will start over the holidays on the new classroom space upstairs in the administration block. Once this is completed work will then commence on the library. I am so excited for our school as this will mean that our much needed library should be up and running by the beginning of 2018.
The team is looking at holding three events throughout the year to engage our past and present students.  If you would like to join the working party can you please email me I am currently looking for someone happy to lead the working party.  Can a member of the P&C please volunteer to be the program manager of the celebration?

2017 Voluntary Financial Contribution and School Building Fund information letters have been emailed to families today. Please read the letter carefully as there are two separate bank account details, depending on your choice of contribution. If you require any further assistance please contact Kylie in the office at the beginning of Term 4.
Parent Update Form has also been emailed. The purpose of this form is to update mobile phone numbers for a new SMS Absentee System to be implemented during Term 4.  Email addresses and a nominated parent to receive future invoices through a new phone App called QParents can also be updated on this form.

Please be advised that Prep 2018 placement acceptance information will be emailed out Friday 15/09/2017 to all in catchment enrolments. All out of catchment enrolments will be notified later in term 4 regarding acceptance status.

Thirty Petrie Terrace students are confirmed to attend QAGOMA's Australian Cinematheque on Friday 22 September. An email has been distributed to parents/carers of the relevant students to contact the supervising teacher Jess McVeigh on to confirm meeting place and time.

Please return your notes and money for your children's artwork. We are still waiting for a lot of notes and payments to be returned. Without this payment, we will not be able to give the children their framed work. There is no levy for the Art program and this money helps buy materials and gives the children the opportunity to see their work respected and appreciated in an exhibition.
We are still looking for volunteers to help with the Art show. It is quite a huge task for a few people, but with many hands we can make it light work. Please sign up at the link
The photography competition is open to all members of our community. Please email me the entries to

Thank you to all the families who have returned their notes and payments. If you haven't returned yours, please return it as soon as possible so we can process these and know how many are expected.
We would love some help in preparing and running the evening. Please use this link to sign up to help.
We are also looking for donations or subsidised purchases of Art to auction on the night. If you or somebody you know is an Artist willing to donate, please email Jess at
ART SHOW HAMPERS - due by the End of Term 3
Hampers and prizes are being put together by the Parent Reps for raffles and silent auctions on the night of the ART SHOW.  We are asking for donations of prizes.  If you have a business or access to goods and services that you would be happy to provide a voucher for (or actual physical items), this would be very welcome.
Items that we can use to put together some lovely prizes are:
• Wine, Beer & Spirits
• Gourmet Goods
• Books
• Jewellery
• Candles
• Beauty and Pampering Products
• Vouchers
Basically anything that you would like to win!
We will ensure that any business that donates gets credit on the night and in the following week’s newsletter as well as a thank-you letter and certificate of appreciation afterwards (so email me with the business details, if you have success in this area, so I can keep track).
Items can be dropped off at the Uniform Shop on Friday morning or at the office on other days (Attention Rosanna) or please get in touch to arrange pick-up ( / 04074433396).
Suncorp Stadium have an NRL Finals game planned for either Friday 15th September or Saturday 16th September.  The volunteer spreadsheet has been updated so you can put your name down for one or the other (or both) and that way once the game date is announced we'll know who's doing car parking.  Please jump on and volunteer to raise money for our school:
Volunteer opportunities for "Sweet Treat Roster" are now open. Please click on the following web link (or copy it into your web browser if clicking doesn't work) to go to the signup sheet:

The next P&C Meeting will be held on Wednesday 11th October at 6:30 in the Bumbletown Hall.  We hope to see you there.

The BrisBricks Brisbane LEGO® Fan Expo 2017 is on the last weekend of School holidays, 30 September - 2 October (the long weekend) at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Chandler Arena (corner of Tilley and Old Cleveland Road, Chandler).
As our club is not for profit, we raise money for local charities that focus on the needs of kids and this year is no exception. This year our focus will be with Act for Kids. For more information about this amazing charity please go to:
We would very much love if you could place a note in this week’s school newsletter, or perhaps include in an email to the parents and guardians before school holidays start this weekend. There will be some amazing displays, a LEGO play area, and a record attempt!
Please find attached our media release and flyer for more info.
