Principals Message

Mindup - mindful awareness
Behaviour rule - walk, talk and line up appropriately

What a wonderful week it’s been in our little town.  I’m so happy to be back in our warmer Brisbane winter weather.
There is nothing like a vision statement to capture a reader’s attention. I know that at times these kind of headings can be a bit cliché, so my aim is to share how this lives and breathes in our school.
“To engage all students as lifelong learners in a well-rounded curriculum that prepares them for the challenges of tomorrow.”
While literacy and numeracy are the cornerstones of learning, we also like to provide students with a broad range of learning opportunities. We know that learning does not only happen in a classroom. In fact many important lessons are learnt in the playground, on the sporting field, at home and on camp/ excursions. There are many wonderful learning opportunities our students have each day in their classrooms with our fantastic teachers or outside of school playing in sporting teams or enjoying outdoor activities. PTSS kids are fortunate to have such rich learning opportunities each day in their life.
This week we have all enjoyed the Author visit from David Lowe to inspire our love of storytelling and reading in us all.  We are also looking forward to the Book Week parade – escape to everywhere on Friday at assembly.  Thanks to the many people in our community who make our vision become an everyday reality for our students.
Cyber Safety Talk Monday  28 August
To help support our students navigate the cyber world the school has organised for a presentation about Cyber Safety on Monday the 28th of August for our students at the following times. (parents of the students attending are invited as well)
12:30pm – 1:30pm Year 3 & 4
2pm – 3pm Year 5 & 6
3:15pm – 4pm  All Staff
The presentations cover topics such as:
• How to protect personal information when creating online accounts
• Cyberbullying and standing up for friends online
• Account privacy and how to create a strong password
• Responding to negative online content,
• How to handle yourself if you're having a difficult time online.
Have a great week

P&C News

PTSS parents and students are invited to attend a planning meeting to discuss the future development of the lower level of the school (comprising the oval, playground, sheds, netball courts and under the hall). Jabiru has generously offered to help facilitate the process by providing an experienced professional to help us make our desires a reality. If you have any ideas to contribute, you are most welcome to participate in the meeting to be held on Sunday the 27th of August from 9am to 12. If you desire to be a little more involved, become a member of the Oval Development Working Group. Email Greg Steel with your expressions of interest-

Jabiru have arranged the Jabiru Kids PopUpPlay bus and a couple of staff so there'll be plenty of fun for children who attend, even if they are not so interested in master planning, or drift away as they lose interest. All are welcome.

GET YOUR DISCO ON!  Friday, September 1st, 6-8pm

Our second hand rack is looking a little lean.  If you have any outgrown uniforms that you would be happy to donate, the uniform shop will make a very good short term home for them.
I am looking for someone to assist with the collation of the P&C news items for this newsletter.  It takes between half an hour and an hour each week.  The majority of that work needs to be done on a Wednesday night or Thursday morning, during term only.  If you think you can assist, please email me on
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Petrie Terrace P&C will be on Wednesday 13th September at 6.30pm in the Bumbletown Hall.  See you there!

Dear PTSS Families
We are still accepting school photo orders via the online galleries until this Friday 25 Aug. After this date the galleries will expire so you will no longer be able to view them, however if you would still like to order after this date you can do so sight unseen and they will be delivered in line with other orders we are placing.
Should you still require assistance to order please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Kind Regards
