ANZAC DAY
ANZAC Day, 25th April, is one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australia and New Zealand forces during the First World War.
Gallipoli had a profound impact on Australians at home, and 25th April soon became a day on which Australians remembered the sacrifice of those who died in the war. Although the Gallipoli campaign failed in its military objectives, the actions of Australian and New Zealand forces during the campaign left a powerful legacy. What became known as the “ANZAC legend” became an important part of the identity of both nations, shaping the ways in which they viewed both their past and their future.
Thank you to everyone who helped the school community by participating or attending Tuesday’s morning service to reflect on the self-sacrifice of thousands of men and women who lost their lives defending our nation. As the sounding of the Last Post and the observation of one minute’s silence deepens the significance of this national occasion, we honoured with respect the lives of these military people.
Lest We Forget.

IS YOUR CHILD A PERSISTENT ABSENTEE?
With the start of the new Term, it is vitally important that all students build positive habits for learning, one being regular attendance. Our school has ‘set the bar’ at 96% attendance for all students. We are currently sitting just above 95% - so there is need for improvement.
Statistics show that persistent absentees are less likely to achieve their full potential, and can affect their grades, and their future prospects as they progress through the years of study – worse still, absenteeism breeds further absenteeism.
“The relationship between attendance and NAPLAN scores shows that each 1 percentage point increase in attendance for Year 5 students is related to higher student outcomes by an average of 2-3 NAPLAN scale score points in numeracy, reading, spelling, writing and grammar & punctuation.” (p.22)

In short, how can students learn and be successful if they are missing school?
