                                                                 PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS REMINDER
Parent-teacher interviews this term  will take place in week four from July 31 to Friday 4 August.  Please find below a link to the SOBS online Parent/Teacher Interview booking system that was emailed out this week on Monday 24 July.  Parent access is available  until 10am Monday 31st July for Teacher meetings during the week starting 31st July.
Please check the online help section within the SOBS website if you need assistance.
This week we were visited by Michelle Mitchell from Youth Excel.  Her information session was both informative and supportive of the issues children face while growing up.  A huge thank you to the P&C for contributing to the organisation of the evening.
I will be taking some long service leave next week from Thursday 3 August until Friday 18 August.
While I am away Mrs Karryn Coombes will be acting Principal. I am sure that she will have a lovely time filling in for me during the two weeks.
From time to time the school is faced with behavioural challenges and considerations for students.  The school has a responsible behaviour plan that is endorsed by the P&C and the staff from the school and the Regional Director.  The school follows this plan when incidents take place within the school.  Students are encouraged to inform staff if they have an issue with a student, community member or situation so that the matter can be dealt with appropriately.  Students are given this message in a variety of ways across the school through the peer support program, explicit teacher instruction in individual classes, assembly and incidental learning opportunities across the school.  Students are taught to use the high 5 approach.
Many of you may identify that this information was in last weeks newsletter.  I felt that it was still appropriate to keep this in this week’s newsletter as a reminder.
A vital part of “Positive Behaviour for Learning” is maintaining a safe environment for students, staff and parents/care givers. Please ensure that your child does not arrive at school prior to 8:30am.  Supervision is provided on the oval of the school by Teacher Aide from 8:30am.
The School operating hours are 8:50am-3:00pm. The office is open from 8am -3:30pm for all parent/care giver enquiries.
1. Teachers and Administration staff are rostered for duty from 8:50am – 3:00pm only. You may observe them on school premises but this is a time for planning and preparation, they are not required to provide supervision prior/after these times.
2. It is a criminal offence for a person who has care of a child less than 12 years of age, to leave the child for an unreasonable time without making reasonable provision for the supervision and care of the child. We ask that students not arrive at school until after 8.30 am.
3. If you require out of hours school care for your child please contact Jabiru, they may be able to provide this service on site here within the school grounds.
4. All students, upon arrival between 8.30am – 8.50am are required to walk to the oval which is the only supervised area for this time.  Families are to leave the school grounds by 3:15pm so that Jabiru can use the space.
Enjoy your week.
School Photos will be available soon, an email will be distributed next week.

Scholastic - Term 3

Scholastic Issue 5 catalogues have been handed out to classrooms this week and there is now a new easy way to order - LOOP - Linked Online ordering and payment.
There is no longer any need to send your order form with receipt number to school and we will no longer be accepting cash payments.  You can place the order directly on the Scholastic LOOP website and make the payment at the same time.
This will be a much easier process for everyone and hopefully avoid any issues of missing forms, sending cash to school and missing cut off dates.
The orders for Issue 5 will close on 5th September.
Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our library and classrooms, however there is never any obligation to order.
If you have any questions please let me know!

After School Activities Term 3 2017
Welcome Back! All activities are of course open to all ages. Each Petrie Terrace student has access to 2 free after school activities a term, through the "Sporting Schools" grant program, as well as a free afternoon tea before the activity begins.  A permission form MUST be completed prior to attending either of the two free programs on offer this term. The permission form will be available outside the office, and via the website under School Documents. As an aside, if your child will not be attending an after school activity due to illness etc., and especially if they are in Junior School, it would be much appreciated if you could drop a quick SMS to 0434 901 742. It will save the person on supervision needlessly searching for them. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Email is best (, my mobile number is 0434 901 742 and my home phone number is 3369 6203. Kind Regards, Heidi Von Kistowski (After School Activities Coordinator-Parent Volunteer)
