Principal's Message

Mind up –  Mindful listening
Behaviour rule – Dispose of rubbish respectfully
Recently the school has been focusing on what our school rules mean for us as a united community.  The nesting model of RESPECT FOR SELF, OTHERS AND PLACE is the basis for all our processes and policies.  These processes and policies are also supported by the Department of Education and our P&C.  I would like to remind the community of the responsibility that we all have to remember the enrolment agreement that all parents/care givers sign on enrolling to ensure the safe and supportive environment of the school.  Please remember that the classroom teacher is the first point of contact if you have concerns around a situation as they are with our students every day.   If you need to meet with them it is respectful to make a time to discuss concerns at a mutually agreed time as conversations at bell time are not ideal.  Similarly emails to myself about something that happened in the classroom need to start with the classroom teacher.  This is a process that needs to be supported for the good order and management of the school which I am sure you will all respect.  I look forward to the increase in adherence to this process to ensure that our core business of improving all students outcomes comes first.
Thank you to our amazing school community for attending the recent disco last Friday night.  I am sure that all who attended would agree with me that the team of organisers certainly turned on a great night for everyone to enjoy.  I'm looking forward now to the annual school art show next term as our next big community event.
This coming Tuesday at 2pm in the hall we will be entertained by our music department and students.  They have all worked very hard to ensure that they have a wonderful ensemble to share us.  I hope to see you there.  
Reading provides our students with the building blocks for their developing literacy skills.  Our recent Book Fair has enabled many of our students access to some great books and has been a great success as well.  Thank you again to the team of staff and volunteers that made the Book Fair possible.  
Next term the school is looking to help support our Prep students for 2018 by inviting them and other community members to attend our very first playgroup from birth to Pre-Prep age groups.  Please email me at if you might be interested or pass this information on to others that might like to attend.  The dates and times will depend on the level of interest.
The team is looking at holding three events throughout the year to engage our past and present students.  If you would like to join the working party can you please email me I am currently looking for someone happy to lead the working party.  Can a member of the P&C please volunteer to be the program manager of the celebration?


Term 3 strings invoices have been sent home. Please ensure these are paid before the end of term. Contact the office if you require a copy of your invoice.
Term 4 Swimming lessons and Footsteps dance lessons both begin Week 1, more details and invoices issued soon.


Photos are currently being printed and will be sent to school by the end of next week and will be distributed to the students via the classroom.


Next Wednesday the Jabiru Pop Up Play Bus will be visiting PTSS during lunchtime. Young people in grades 2-6 will have an opportunity to be part of a play based session on the oval with staff from Jabiru and Lang Park PCYC.

P&C News

The next meeting to discuss oval development will be held on Wednesday 11 October from 5pm - 6:30pm (immediately prior to P&C meeting).  Our consultant will present the community with options for the use of the space. Come along to have your say.
The next meeting of the Petrie Terrace P&C will be on Wednesday 13th September at 6.30pm in the Bumbletown Hall.  See you there.
I am pleased to advise that myself (Lyndall McCabe) and Nat Ivory have put our names forward to run the tuckshop in Term 4.
Our commitment is to continue the nutritious and yummy food at affordable prices to the PTSS students, following on from the legacy that the caring and passionate Bonnie Masters has managed to provide to date.

To make the tuckshop fun & successful, we do need volunteers to help out on Thursday mornings & make the sweet treat. You don’t have to be a Masterchef to volunteer – muffins, slice or large biscuits are just some options to bake. Please contact me at if you have any questions or queries – ideally we need to organise a roster for the term.
The revised menu will be uploaded in the 2nd week of the September holidays and an email will be sent once done.
AND don’t forget, you can pre – order for the entire term if that assists in getting one task off your list.

ART SHOW - Saturday, 7th October
Don’t forget to book your babysitter. This is a night not to be missed!  Tickets will be sent home soon, so please don’t forget to RSVP.  Soon, we will also be calling for volunteers to help out with setting up the hall.
ART SHOW HAMPERS - due by the End of Term 3
Hampers and prizes are being put together by the Parent Reps for raffles and silent auctions on the night of the ART SHOW.  We are asking for donations of prizes.  If you have a business or access to goods and services that you would be happy to provide a voucher for (or actual physical items), this would be very welcome. 
Items that we can use to put together some lovely prizes are:
• Wine, Beer & Spirits
• Gourmet Goods
• Books
• Jewellery
• Candles
• Beauty and Pampering Products
• Vouchers
Basically anything that you would like to win!  Items can be dropped off at the Uniform Shop on Friday morning or at the office on other days (Attention Rosanna) or please get in touch to arrange pick-up ( / 04074433396).
The school uniform shop sells swimming bags for $12.  Don’t forget to stop by on Friday and pick-up one ready for Term 4 if you haven’t as yet got one.  Ideally a swimming bag should have the following characteristics (ours does):
• Water Proof - so it doesn’t leak in the school bag.
• Can be carried like a backpack - so your child can walk hand in hand (if required) with their partner to swimming.
• Large enough to fit in all their gear - with enough space to make it easy.  Too small makes it really hard for the littles one.
Thank you so much to the many wonderful families and individuals who participated in the organising of the Disco…and also to all of those who attended!  The turnout was massive and the atmosphere electric!
With only a month to organise, it was obvious from the start that this is an event that everyone wants.  So many volunteers came forward to help and went above and beyond.  Thank you all for being so easy to work with.  What could have been stressful was actually heaps of fun.  We are a fortunate school to have such a pool of talent with great ideas and the work ethic to match. 
It is very difficult to name everyone, however, the following names need to be acknowledged:
Sandy - for being so flexible with the use of school resources and trying to work out the best time within a short time frame (and minefield of other events.)
Brad - for working tirelessly all day to help with set-up and coming in on Saturday to get the hall tidied up.
P&C - for being open-minded to doing things differently and trying out some new ideas.
Chris McCabe, Bonnie Masters & Katie Morris - for organising Food Trucks - not an easy task with only 4 weeks to plan.
Lyndall McCabe - for tallying RSVP’s and organising Raffles & Prizes
Johanna Osborne - for your generous donation of glow sticks to every child
Donna - for setting up the volunteer spreadsheet and organising the paperwork!
Cleo & the decorating team (Amy, Deb, Delwyn, Bonnie, Ky, Camille) - Utilising mostly existing resources to decorate with Delwyn’s wonderful CD decoration idea and Bonnie’s generous donation of balloons and extras.
Rob Ashby - I tried to give him the night off (for Father’s Day and because he was solo parenting on the night) but he wouldn’t have it. Such a huge job liaising with the community to get good deals and $15 champagne that tasted at least $30!
Bar Volunteers - Let’s face it - this is the place to be - but thank you anyway!
Set-up Crew - Too many to name and also consisting of some of our lovely 2016 Seniors who were never going to miss the fun.
Greg Steel & the pack away team - also too many to name.  They left the grounds so tidy that there was barely anything to do on Saturday morning!

Thank you also to the beautiful teachers who were able to come along to witness the craziness that is school disco.  It was lovely to see you there and have a chat.
