Principals Message

Mindup                   Behaviour rule
Taking action           Greet and help others
Many of you might already be aware that our much loved cleaner Gaylene Shepherd will be retiring on August 4 this year.  She has been a valued member of the school community for 33 years and will be missed by everyone at the school.  I would like to invite the community to wish her well at this week’s assembly on Friday the 4 August that will be held at the usual time of 9:00am.
Thank you to all the parents that were able to attend the parent teacher interviews recently.  I hope that you found the SOB’s(student on line booking system) helpful to enable you to make a time that suited both yourself and the teacher.
The school has been working really hard to ensure that our focus on writing is part of our everyday learning.  At this stage of the term all students should understand what genre they are learning about and what they need to be able to demonstrate to receive an A-C standard in their assessment task.  Scaffolded activities during the weeks before the set task is undertaken students complete or are involved in learning opportunities that help them practice the skills to be successful.
This week I have included some to the student work for you to enjoy from 4/5D.
Our school
The walls and halls are strung with art,
The beauty is made with hand and heart.
We’ll plant a seed and let it grow
Our true respect will forever flow.
The blazing fire hit us all
As we rose we built a hall
When our history clashes
We will rise from the ashes
We’ll plant a seed and let it grow
Our true respect will forever flow.
Petrie Terrace multi-age,
Beyond the rest is on the page,
We’ll plant a seed and let it grow,
Our true respect will forever flow.
In Gala Day we play as one,
And thinksports is all for fun,
Our flourishing gardens will stand out,
Our flowers will forever sprout,
We’ll plant a seed and let it grow
Our true respect will forever flow.
We are writers above all.
We are proud though we are small.
We’ll plant a seed and let it grow
Our true respect will forever flow.

Tuesday, 15th August is ‘Thinksports Day’. This day involves a variety of activities that require children to ‘think outside the box’. As a part of this day each child designs and makes their own creation. Children will be making creations on Friday (11th August) and Monday (14th August) at school.
Between now and then children will be thinking about what they would like to make, ie animal habitat, a re-creation of something they are interested in (solar system? house? animal?) or a new invention (something the child has thought would be a ‘good idea’ to have or use? ). There will be discussion and planning in class and children should bring in a variety of materials to assist in building their ideas. Boxes, plastic milk bottles, coloured paper, straws, aluminum foil, bubble wrap, wrapping paper, and material - these are all handy resources and children will be able to construct using these materials. Children are encouraged to re-use materials and/or use recycled materials rather than purchase craft items. Children will be making their creation at school. Children are not to build them at home.  The creations will be on display on Tuesday (15th August) and parents are welcome to come and view them if they wish.  This is a whole school activity.  Your assistance in helping your child to collect materials would be greatly appreciated.
SPORTS DAY AWARDS - Please note that the Age Champions will be awarded with their medallions at assembly next week (Friday, 11th August).
Have a great week

After School Activities Term 3 2017
All activities are of course open to all ages. Each Petrie Terrace student has access to 2 free after school activities a term, through the "Sporting Schools" grant program, as well as a free afternoon tea before the activity begins. A permission form MUST be completed prior to attending either of the two free programs on offer this term. The Permission form will be available outside the office, and via the website under School Documents. As an aside, if your child will not be attending an after school activity due to illness etc, and especially if they are in Junior School, it would be much appreciated if you could drop a quick SMS to 0434 901 742. It will save the person on supervision needlessly searching for them. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Email is best (, my mobile number is 0434 901 742 and my home phone number is 3369 6203.
Kind Regards,
