At Petrie Terrace we have a proud and strong tradition of excellence and celebration of the musical arts.

Our commitment to providing a wide range of quality music programs, enables our students to learn a range of instruments and appreciation of music, through Choir and Whole School Events.  Every student from Prep to Year 6 participates in a weekly music lesson with our specialist music teacher.

Extended Music Program

The instrumental music program at PTSS consists of instruments from the string, woodwind, brass and percussion families.  All available for loan from the school.  The extended music program is supported by teachers - Ms Nixon (Strings and Ensembles), Mr Kucharski (Instrumental, Percussion, Drums and Band).

Providing for a greater chance of significant development, we have two specialist teachers and two days of teaching time provided by the department and school funds, allowing for very small and specific lesson groups.  Junior and Senior string ensembles and concert bands rehearse each week and perform at school assemblies and concerts.

A fully equipped recording setup is also used to record those who perfect their performances. A great teaching tool and another type of outcome produced, a CD the students can take home at the end of the year for their archives or a great Christmas present for those in their families that have been supporting them in their music making.  A very supportive whole school staff adds to the excellent opportunities for growth in and through music.
