At Petrie Terrace we are proud to support the inclusion of all students in our music programs. We believe that all children are musical and deserve the opportunity to participate, learn and express themselves through music and the arts.
Every student from Prep to Year 6 participates in a weekly music lesson with our specialist music teacher, Mr Walker. Through our classroom music program, students have the opportunity to play instruments like the ukulele and the guitar. A special feature of our school's music program is that all children in Years 1 and 2 have the opportunity to learn introductory violin through a special program pioneered at Petrie Terrace. The program is free, includes weekly lessons over two full years, and allows children an early start in discovering the joy of playing real music on real instruments.
Our instrumental music programs are openly available to students who want to learn a string or a band instrument, and allows students to choose between a wide range of orchestral and band instruments.

Instrumental Music
The instrumental music (IM) programs at PTSS offer small-group lessons and rehearsals on instruments of the string, woodwind, brass and percussion families. These programs are provided by our specialist Instrumental Music teachers, Ms Nixon (strings) and Mr Hunter (band).
Though in overall numbers the PTSS student community is small, music and the arts are highly valued and are strongly supported by funding through both internal and external streams. This additional commitment has more than doubled the normally available teaching time for IM, supporting higher student membership and increased quality of instruction.
